Mayor Mark Boughton to Join HDF at Kick-Off of HOME IN A DAY Event on July 18th at Western Connecticut State University
DANBURY, CT – On Friday, July 18th the Housing Development Fund (HDF) will host a one-day event called HOME IN A DAY where first-time homebuyers can become pre-qualified by one of six local banks for a mortgage and learn about other support to help them purchase a home. Mayor Mark Boughton will join Joan Carty, HDF’s President and CEO, Kathleen Romagnano, CEO of Savings Bank of Danbury and Chair of HDF’s Board of Directors and leaders from other local banks to kick off an exciting event at 11am Friday morning at Western Connecticut State University’s Westside Campus.
Aspiring homeowners can visit Campus Center from 11am and 6pm that day and check their eligibility for generous state-wide housing assistance programs including Live Where You Work program (LWYW) and SmartMove. HDF has set a goal of pre-qualifying eligible homeowners for $1million in assistance during HOME IN A DAY. Participants will also receive a free copy of their credit report, and access to educational information on topics including the home buying process, locating a property and legal considerations for aspiring homeowners.

Walk-ins are welcome however ATTENDEES MUST BRING: 2013 tax returns, copies of 2013 W2s, 4 pay stubs (for any borrowers), and a photo copy of their driver’s license.
Homebuyers will have the chance to sit with a loan originator from a local bank to determine whether they can pre-qualify for a first mortgage, currently six banks have committed to attend the event. Afterwards, they can discuss their credit report with a housing counselor from HDF, and learn about whether they are eligible for programs that offer low-interest loans to help with down payment and closing costs.
The committed local banks participating in the HOME IN A DAY event include Savings Bank of Danbury, Newtown Savings Bank, Union Savings Bank, First County Bank, Chelsea Groton Bank, and Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan. All six banks will have staff on site to meet with prospective homebuyers, and complete pre-qualifications.
HOME IN A DAY will provide each aspiring homebuyer with a roadmap to buying their first home, and will guide them through an assessment of their finances and credit so by the time they leave the Western Connecticut State University campus, they will know what steps to take to achieve their goal.
