Homebuyer Counseling Services
We offer free homeownership counseling. All our clients work with a counselor to chart a path to homeownership from start to finish. A Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified counselor will assess your current situation to determine your mortgage readiness. Together, you will develop an action plan to increase your savings, reduce your debt, and identify the programs that suit you best.
First Steps
For our Homeownership Counseling services and to determine your eligibility for HDF loan programs
(if interested) please follow these steps
Once you complete these steps, your file will be assigned to a HUD Certified Counselor who will assess your file within 10-15 business days.

Homebuyer Education
These classes are able to be taken independently of the counseling.
Our 8-hour homebuyer education class is open to everyone! Regardless of where you are in the home-buying process, this class can provide you with valuable insights to guide you forward.
These classes are mandatory for all Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) loan applicants, as well as for some of our other loan programs. Before closing on a home, all HDF borrowers in our first-time homebuyer program must also complete the class.
Take one of our HDF homebuyer education classes via zoom or through our self paced E-Home course portal.
If you prefer to take the homebuyer education class at your own pace, you may want to consider taking it via Ehome at www.ehomeamerica.org/HDF. This class has a cost of $99 but with promo code HDF24 you will get a $24 discount. Once you register for this class, you have up to 4 months to complete the class. Once you complete it, you will be able to print your Certificate.
