2017 BENEFIT RAISES MORE THAN $60K FOR HOMEOWNERSHIP.

May 25, 2017 – Friends and supporters of the Housing Development Fund gathered at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich.

This annual event brought together hundreds of community leaders who are connected with HDF’s efforts to bring affordable housing opportunities to local families and homebuyers.

Around 250 representative from banks, housing developers, local government, nonprofits, and other community leaders across CT and NY attended our Benefit Breakfast this year.

The attendees were treated to updates about HDF’s affordable housing work in the last year, a keynote talk from Dr. Megan Sandel, and a health-and-housing panel discussion.

Our speaker this year, Dr. Megan Sandel from Boston Medical Center, spoke on “Housing as a Vaccine: The Value Proposition of Homes for Health.” Dr. Sandel’s work has found that affordable and stable housing plays a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of children and lowering health care spending.

The Heath and Housing panel discussion, which was new this year, explored the effects of stable and quality housing on the health of families. The work of each panelist illustrated the intersection of health, housing, and the role that the private sector can play. Thank you our panel participants Nancy von Euler, Megan Sandel, Brenda Torpy, and Sara Tucker for making the panel such a success!

All told, the 2017 breakfast raised $66,125 to support HDF’s first-time homebuyer program, which provides personalized, one-on-one counseling and homebuyer education services to income-eligible families and individuals purchasing their first homes.

Many thanks to all the sponsors and supporters who made this event possible, especially the Goodnow Fund, Bankwell Bank, M&T Bank, People’s United Bank, and TD Bank. Hope to see you all again next year!
