Homebuyer Education Classes

Everything you need to know

jump start your journey

Homebuyer education (HBE) classes are open to everyone, whether you’ve already applied for a mortgage or not. In fact, no matter where you are in the home buying process, this 8-hour course will boost your skills and knowledge of the homebuying process.

HBE classes are mandatory for CHFA loan applicants under the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program, and may be required for other loan programs as well. All HDF borrowers in our First Time Homebuyer Program must complete an 8-hr Home Buyer Education Class before closing.

homebuyer counseling

At HDF, you work one on one with an adviser to chart your path to homeownership from start to finish. Together with your adviser, you will develop an action plan to increase savings, reduce debt, and identify programs that work for you. Create an HDF profile to get started!

In person homebuyer education

HDF offers free 8-hour courses at each of our three office locations in Stamford, Bridgeport, and Danbury. To find out when our next classes are, or to register, please check the form at bottom of this page.

Online homebuyer education

HDF offers two options for online Home Buyer Education. If your mortgage lender requires you to take an HBE class, then please check to see if they accept online courses.

Framework

A homebuyer course designed for online learning, Framework is the product of a team of online learning experts.

The CHFA does not accept Framework online courses as proof of homebuyer education. However, HDF and a number of other lenders do accept Framework certificates.

Ask your bank loan officer to find out if your financing includes a CHFA first mortgage. If the answer is yes, then explore one of our other options above.
